As a teacher in a widely diverse community, I serve students and families from all walks of life. More than half of the students at FHES come from low-income families. Many of my students have more things to worry about other than writing their spelling words and studying their multiplication facts. I have students who are responsible for waking themselves up in the morning, getting their things ready for school, and eating breakfast.
This can make focusing and learning in the classroom a challenge for many students.
Many students receive a backpack for food over the weekend, and my school also keeps a closet stocked of warm coats and jackets for students. Despite the many challenges my students face, I have found that they are kind, eager to learn little people who need a champion in their life.
All children need to sit and concentrate in school, but younger children need the opportunity to move. Hokki stools allow students to do both things at once! Using stools in place of chairs will improve core strength, balance and coordination, while students engage in their daily learning activities. Regular classroom chairs can have negative effects of students' posture and spinal column. Hokki stools allow students to move around outside the normal range of a chair, while minimizing distractions to other students.
An active body equals an active mind!
Having the ability to build core strength while performing academic skills will help the diverse learners in my classroom focus and feel successful and confident.
