Mrs. Amison from Detroit MI is requesting sports & exercise equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students better access to physical activity options. Childhood obesity is still on the rise. A lot of our students do not have the option or access to 60 minutes of active play.

My LOVEBUGS are creative, inquisitive, thoughtful and full of energy! They are excited about all things school. Right now, they are like sponges! I am eager to completely pour into them and capitalize on their desire to learn everything. I want my LOVEBUGS to understand how to love themselves and create positive, healthy self images. Right now we are hands-on, extremely active, and learning how to function with a group of children with equal amounts of energy. I am amazed at how they already think outside their triangles to find, create and try new things and uncover solutions! They come to school eager, excited ready for new experiences.
Research indicates that students who are engaged in daily physical education programs consistently show not just superior motor fitness, but better academic performance and a better attitude toward school. If we can create an environment where young people have access to structured and creative physical activities, it may make it easier to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Our Daily Routine provides 2 opportunities for children to participate physical activities.
There has been much debate about the benefits of play.
However, cognitive researchers now understand that play in all capacities are associated with intellectual growth. Many play-oriented movements have the capacity to improve cognition, including the following:
Exercise play (aerobics, running, chasing, dance routines).
Rough-and-tumble play (soccer, football, wrestling).
Solitary play (doing puzzles, object manipulation).
Outdoor learning activities (digging, observing insects).
Stand and stretch activities (tai chi, Simon Says).
Group or team competitive games and activities (relays, cheerleading).
Constructive play (building with blocks, model building).
Exploratory play (hide and seek, scavenger hunts, make-believe).
Functional play (purposeful play, such as practicing a new skill).
Group noncompetitive games (earth ball).
Acquiring these items for our outdoor time will provide us with the opportunity to learn and play through movement. My LOVEBUGS will get to release stress and take breaks from the rigor of schoolwork. I want to instill the importance of educating the whole child- Mind, Body and Soul...
