My Project
This project will bring large motor movement tools—stepping stones, a floor ten-frame, and hula hoops—into our daily reading and math instruction. These tools will allow my students to move their bodies as they grow their brains, making abstract academic concepts more concrete, memorable, and fun.
Here’s how we’ll use these tools:
Stepping Stones: Students will step between words or syllables in phonics and phonemic awareness games, or follow the number sequence and math functions across the stones.
Floor Ten-Frame: A giant ten-frame will turn number sense into a physical experience as students hop in and out to add, subtract, and explore place value.
Hula Hoops: We'll use them as stations, sorting spaces, or phoneme rings for segmenting sounds—or even to jump from one comprehension question to the next!
By incorporating movement into lessons, students will stay more engaged and better retain what they learn. This approach supports whole-child development, enhancing focus, coordination, and academic achievement all at once.
