Help me give my students bilingual books that help provide students with a positive cultural identity and lessons that teach students to be their personal best!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a school that serves K-8 students in a low-income, high crime area. My students are excited to come to school each day to learn! At our school we teach our students that they have the power! They have the power to grow their brains each day and that college is for certain!
My students love anything that is engaging, hands-on, and interactive.
These students show grit by coming to school each day ready to tackle any challenges they might face. It is my responsibility to create a safe learning environment where students learn how to properly communicate with each other through positive interactions. As their teacher, I hope that I can teach them that they can accomplish anything they put their mind to!
My Project
To help our Spanish-speaking parents better support their scholar’s education, I want to invite parents to come read to our class. Hoping to instill a sense of positive cultural identity, I want to provide books that are both in English and Spanish for the parents to read. I am hoping that parent volunteers will feel more empowered to support their child’s academic success and create more positive connections with the other students in our class. By reading in Spanish, the volunteers can demonstrate that their language and culture are valued in the classroom which also promotes appreciation and respect for our Latino classmates. The whiteboard easel will help the volunteers have the space they need to create activities that help instill the lessons from the books into my scholars.
The bilingual books will teach all students about respect, acceptance, family pride, and other important values.
