Beauty without color seems somehow to belong to another world. -Murasaki Shikibu
My students are English Language Learners who struggle through each day.
They have a language barrier that we are working on breaking down and many have special needs. Within the school walls many of my students find safety and stability, where they many not at home. My coworkers and I work hard to make learning an enjoyable experience to inspire the young adults in the school to move forward with their education and be successful.
Color copy paper and crayons are used regularly in my classroom. Students create foldables using colored paper and use crayons to decorate them. Aside from foldables, color paper is used to scaffold lessons and readings. After asking a number students how they felt about the use of color paper for foldables, graphic organizers, and readings they explained that they remember information better and enjoy learning more while using them.
A donation of color paper and crayons will benefit my students by helping them to retain information and making learning an enjoyable experience.
It is incredibly satisfying for them to see a finished project that they are impressed and satisfied with. When their self esteem is raised they want to try harder and that is essential to learning.
