Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This group of students was quite challenging at the start of the school year, but throughout the first semester they have learned to share and treat each other with respect. What has surprised me the most is how excited they are about flexible seating. A few weeks into the school year, I brought out two yoga balls for students to share. I created a calendar so that every student had a specific day when they could use it. I also had a yoga ball at the back table where I worked with small groups.
Instead of arguing over who got the yoga ball at the back, students determined how long each person could use it for.
This behavior made everyone happy, including me. Unfortunately, with overuse, our yoga balls have started to break. We are down to just one yoga ball to share and so, I'd like to start the new year with some new ones.
I want to continue to reward the behavior of sharing and taking turns, but also allow my students to be comfortable while they learn.
