My Project
There is no room for a one-size-fits-all mentality in a 21st century classroom. My diverse children are individuals with unique learning needs and styles. Some learn best by sitting at traditional desks and chairs. Others learn best by standing, laying on the floor, or sitting in a comfortable chair. I am seeking to address my children’s needs and styles by giving them the power to choose the type of seating that will help them learn best.
Empowering children to choose their learning space is linked to increased engagement in critical thinking, enriched collaboration, and improved learning.
Children who are given the option to choose the space in which they learn are more vested in learning tasks. Giving them this choice also impact their behavior in a positive manner. They get to sit where they want and with whom they want as long as they are being productive in their learning. It will lay the foundation for desiring the power of choice in other aspects of their life and how they can change the world around them by choosing wisely.
