This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
No more chalky hands! No more loud overhead projectors with millions of transparencies to keep track of.
Every day I stop and think, "How can I cut down on my preparation time".
I teach four math classes that require a lot of hands on activities that have 3D objects as well as lab sheets. I want to keep my student engaged at all times, and have part in their learning. I want my students to be exposed to technology other than the overhead projector.
My students attend a public school in a low income neighborhood. Most of my students come from broken homes. They do not have a permanent home they stay in. Everyday is different for them. I want my students to feel excited when they are learning math. What other way but by using the technology we have available today, a document camera.
My Project
I have a total of four classes. I use the overhead projector for each class. After each class I have to erase all my transparencies before the next class comes in. Using a document camera will help cut the preparation time in half. I will be able to have my students more involved in their learning. They will be able to project the work they completed in their notebook through the document camera. More things will be able to be modeled through the document camera, for example, games and experiments. The document camera will help my student show all the different ways an Extended Response can be done. Students will have more chances of sharing their ideas.
Having a document camera will change the way my students learn in my classroom.
They will have a chance to discuss their work with other students besides their group members. This will enable my students to take initiative in their own learning. Every minute action is something we can learn from. I want to learn from them, and I want them to learn from me. I want my students to leave school everyday with new thoughts and ideas. The document camera will make all those things possible!
