This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Each year I have a wonderful group of sixth graders with a huge variety of strengths and challenges. I also always have a subset of students who have struggled with reading for many years and come to me frustrated and often, reticent to keep trying to learn. Other times, I have students new to the language who must learn an entirely new sound system in order to read in English.
It is essential for students to have a firm understanding of phonics in order to read every word they come across.
These materials will help me to intervene with these children in small groups, ensuring they have a deep understanding of how the English language works. These magnetic boards and letters make our groups efficient and productive, because each child can work on building the words directly in front of them without fiddling with disorganized materials.
