Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our world is full of fast-paced actions and sounds, loud noises, and colors which can lead to some children being overstimulated and stressed. Terms like ADHD and spectrum only identify a student who may need more assistance. It is up to us to provide instruction and tools to develop them to their full potential.

Our preschool classroom is a bright and energetic area where children are encouraged to explore and play, but this environment can be a disadvantage to some children who find it tough to focus.

Research shows that many of these children benefit from using sensory-based activities to help with excess energy and to help focus their attention on the tasks at hand.

Currently, 21% of my students require additional support for social-emotional development. For instance, some of our children do much better when they have something to fidget with at circle time. Some children have difficulty staying on task while discussing the weather or putting a puzzle together with classmates. Having tools like fidget activities, bubble tubes, sensory tiles, Kinetic sand, and sensory dough will help students to focus. Other children need a quiet activity to help them refocus. Having tools to help them provides opportunities for all students to learn in the same environment.

As a teacher, I am trying to always provide the best learning environment for my students. I make do with the tools I am given. Being creative and resourceful is part of the basics of being a teacher, but that can only go so far. Sometimes I need tangible items to provide the best education possible. I look forward to being able to offer students the opportunity to participate in all our classroom activities by being provided additional tools to help them with focusing. Please help me make my wish a reality.
