This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We just recently celebrated Earth Day, and I wanted to make sure that my students understand the environment and how we can all help. I have selected the book, "Heroes of the Environment: True Stories of People Who Help Protect Our Planet" in order to help my students learn the importance of protecting our environment.

One way that we can give back to the environment is by reducing our waste.

My students usually have individually wrapped snacks and drinks. I have requested a Waffle Maker/ panini press unit and mix in order to make snacks that do not have individual wrappers to limit our waste. This unit allows us to make various different healthy snacks and breakfast items in the classroom to promote positive behavior and positive classroom relationships. This storage tote will be used to store all of our food items safely. The grill scraper will be used to keep our unit clean.

This project aims to improve students' behavior and strengthen our classroom community. Our school participates in PBIS, which teaches positive behavior. This program reduces negative behavior. Students are more likely to perform better academically since PBIS helps to limit distractions in the classroom. Students earn reward dollars which can be redeemed for treasure box prizes or a gift cards. Instead of using disposable cups, I will model how we can use a reusable mug in order to make these drinks. The Kruig will be used to make the hot chocolate and tea which will be used as prizes that students can select with their PBIS points. I have requested gift cards from DoorDash, Starbucks, and Amazon in order to use as positive behavior rewards. Students will have a real-life experience to help the environment while they are redeeming their positive behavior rewards!
