My Project
Learning about food should be as hands-on and engaging as eating it—and that’s exactly what I hope to create with this project. My classroom is full of curious, thoughtful high schoolers who are eager to learn about how the food they eat affects their health, their energy, and their future. Many of my students come from neighborhoods where access to fresh, healthy food is limited, and this class is a chance to not only teach them about nutrition, but to give them the skills and confidence to prepare healthy meals for themselves.
In this class, students will learn the science behind how we fuel our bodies, explore nutrition labels, practice food safety, and develop practical kitchen skills they can use every day.
We’ll focus on no-cook and simple-prep recipes that use fresh ingredients—things they could recreate at home without fancy equipment. At the end of the course, each student will contribute to a collaborative class cookbook featuring recipes they’ve helped create, test, and revise. This cookbook will be something they can take home and share with their families.
To make this possible, we need basic kitchen tools—cutting boards, knives, mixing bowls, measuring cups, a mini-fridge, air fryer, and blender—so that every student can fully participate in the experience. We don't have access to a kitchen space, so these supplies will transform our classroom into a space where learning feels real, joyful, and practical. With your support, my students will not just learn about healthy food—they will make it, taste it, and own their learning in a way that builds lasting knowledge and life-changing habits.
