My Project
I teach in an integrated kindergarten program where students with disabilities are integrated, included, and essential to our class community and growth. All kindergarteners, no matter the varying abilities, are learning how to share, take turns, communicate, and work through conflicts.
We need games and tools that foster natural environments for problems to be solved and conversations to be had.
I am envisioning a classroom where complex board games are being played and students are learning rules together. I can picture students building towers that crumble and emotional conversations are invited and used as tools for learning.
I can see students asking to borrow favored playdoh tools, friends working together to balance items, turn taking through Connect 4 or Trouble. I am looking forward to watching students win games and lose at games, to have meaningful conversations about what it feels like to lose, how we can get back up and keep playing even with a loss.
