My students need books to teach and reinforce social-emotional skills. Books like "Personal Space Camp" and "But It's; Not My Fault" teach kids the skills they need to succeed in school and life!
Our students come to school ready to learn and many are gifted and talented learners. Our focus is on technology, STEM My school is the first neighborhood school in a small suburb and is home to more than 900 students in Pre-K through the fifth grade.
The teachers and staff are committed to providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all children and strive to equip students to become life-long learners.
This is achieved through emphasis on technology, coding, and PBL that is student driven!
The school's success is the product of a strong home-school connection that supports the belief of doing whatever it takes to ensure the educational growth of all students.
My Project
We focus so much on teaching children academics that sometimes the most important skills go untaught. We need to step back and be more intentional about teaching children the unspoken skills that drive our society. That is exactly what I intend to do with these resources. I will be pairing these read aloud with interactive lessons to help cement these skills.
These books give students concrete examples of otherwise abstract social concepts helping to initiate conversation and grow social skills.
Social skills are some of the most important to have not only in school but in the workforce and life in general and I want my students to leave kindergarten prepared. Books like Planning Isn't My Priority highlight skills that are otherwise hard for children to grasp.
A large number of books like these allow myself and other teachers in the school to directly address the skills that our students need support with. I will combine these books with interactive lessons to provide examples and experiences to further the development of these skills. This will ensure that every student has both the academic and social skills they need to be successful.
