Help me give my students the opportunity to enjoy a classroom full of rich historical literature that I will be able to display on these amazing new bookshelf organizers.
I teach 4th and 5th grade departmentalized Social Studies, with an emphasis on Cherokee Language Studies for each class once a week. I teach in a Title 1 school so we are pretty good at repurposing and sharing among ourselves items and furniture that we already have. That being said, I will be changing classrooms this next year and will have to leave behind the shelving I have in my current classroom because it is mounted to the wall.
I find that when my students enter my classroom, they migrate towards the books that I have on people and events in history.
This makes my teacher heart so happy to see their desire to learn and soak up the information that built our country. With the new bookshelves and the different literature on my list, it would be used to service the 90 children who come in and out of my room each day, as I can have it displayed and readily available for them.
I believe my students are special on so many levels, one being how I watch so many of them enter the school building each morning and rise above so many obstacles and challenges that they face in their day to day lives. Being able to offer them a safe, fun, relaxing, loving classroom is my first priority and from there we branch off into learning all that their little minds can soak up.
