Learning Geometry Using Creative Tools

My students need AngLegs Plus tools to creatively learn Geometry so they can apply their knowledge to solve real life engineering problems.

My Students

Our students are creative, engaged thinkers who have limited learning opportunities because they do not have access to geometry manipulatives. They enjoy using their hands to build projects that enhance their learning. They are a cohesive group that are always willing to work together to make sure their classmates understand each lesson. They speak several different languages and come from different cultures. They attend an inner city school where many are on free and reduced lunch. My students come to class excited to learn and make the most of what they have available to them.

My Project

The AngLegs Plus kit consists of adjustable strips and protractors. The multi-day project requires students to use the adjustable strips to build and investigate polygons, parallel lines, transversals, angles, triangular congruence and trigonometric ratios.

The adjustable strips allow students to explore and be creative by manipulating the strips to make various geometric shapes.

The shapes will give them a real life visual that can lead to a better understanding of how to solve real life problems. They will be able to calculate area, perimeter, and find the center points of 3D objects.

Students will have a better understanding of how angles are identified and how they can relate this information to architecture, engineering, navigation and the sports that they play. These tools will help students communicate across the different languages that are spoken in our classroom and help build a strong math foundation.
