Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Let's face it, we all learn more when we are engaged and having fun. Learning doesn't always have to be a chore, it can be fun and purposeful again and again. Kids live to learn and they live to have fun. Help me to integrate games and programs into our daily reading routine.
My students are a hodgepodge of energy.
They are magnificently diverse and wonderfully marvelous. My students greet me every morning enthusiastic and ready to start their day. They are positive and they anticipate great things despite their circumstances. My students are dual language learners. For many of them English is their second language. The vast majority of my students carry the impact of coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds, however, school provides hope for a brighter future.
My Project
We are requesting a pencil sharpener, reading based games to improve comprehension and reading independence, and a whiteboard program. A pencil sharpener will be such a blessing to our room. My students use a handheld pencil sharpener, because the electric one that we have now, is held together by a rubber band. I have to sharpen each student's pencil, for fear that it will short out or fall apart. Currently, we have a whiteboard. However, we have no reading programs to accompany this great tool. Therefore it doesn't for us exist in the capacity that it was created for.
My students love games. In terms of growing them as readers I believe that the comprehension games will catapult their reading to the next level. The majority of the games that we have now are makeshift games that I gave downloaded from the Internet. It would be nice to have sturdy and concrete games for them to utilize, as I work with smaller groups. This will create a fun, interactive environment where they can be totally emersed in fun and learning at the same time.
The reading games alone would improve the overall work flow in my classroom.
Because students would be independently learning through games, this will allow me to conduct more individualized small group instruction for those who need more time with me. The games will also foster independent thinking as well as reinforce skills that have been introduced through formal lessons. This will allow students to actually build and solidify the concepts.
