My Students

I am a second-grade teacher with a wonderful group of students! They are constantly impressing me with their hard-working attitudes, amazing work ethics, and overall positive outlooks on life. I am so proud to be their teacher. They deserve the best education possible.

I teach at a rural, Title I school in North Carolina.

Every child receives free breakfast and lunch. We are located near a large military base and, as a result, serve children of active duty and retired military. Our school serves students from many socioeconomic backgrounds including homeless students, who at times may live with family, friends, or other relatives.

Our students are bright and eager to learn new things. They are hard workers and strive to make their world a better place.

My Project

This year will be one of the most unique school years for everyone- students, parents, and educators. I want to ensure that the students in my class as well as the students in the other 2nd grade classes will have incentives and motivators to continue to meet in our virtual classrooms and work hard throughout the school year. With the funding of this grant, I will be able to provide incentives such as books, science kits, flashcards, and more. I don't want to support just my class, but the entire grade level as a whole. Second Grade is an important grade because the students are learning to become more independent and prepare for third grade. Third grade is a huge transition year for many students, as they need to get used to state testing, faster pacing, and new content. Even if we are away from the classroom, I want to ensure students and families that I am invested in teaching and the student's education just as much as ever.

If funded, this grant would be implemented immediately. Ideally, I would like to offer incentives and motivators at various values throughout the school year, so students will always have new goals to aim for constantly. Whether students want to aim to earn something for strong attendance, reaching a reading goal, or even just for academic success with grades on work they complete and submit for class, I want students to have constant ways to earn incentives throughout the year. I will have set benchmarks for each level of incentive earning- attendance, reading goals, work completion, and so forth. Thank you.
