Learning From a Distance

Help me give my students engaging and hands on materials to use during distance learning!

My Students

My students attend school in Los Angeles, California. We serve a variety of students in grades TK-5th. We are a Title 1 school, which means many students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students are from many diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and are always eager to learn!

We are environmental activists!

Alongside learning to read and write, we learn about the world around us and how we can preserve the beauty of our environment on a daily basis. We love to work together and engage in many hands on activities that make learning come to life every day in our classroom. Most of all, we believe in ourselves!

My Project

As we begin the new school year completely virtual, I want my 1st graders to have access to many hands on and engaging materials. White boards, dry erase markers, and dry erase pockets to use at home will allow them to actively to participate in our Zoom lessons. Primary journals for their writing assignments will ensure that students are practicing their handwriting in a time when so much is being done on the computer, and have paper with appropriate lines/spacing which is so important at this young age! A Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to purchase pre-made activities (that I wouldn't even begin to know where to begin to design myself!) to help make learning engaging. This includes games like Jeopardy, which will help us have fun together and build relationships while learning, digital manipulatives, task cards, and boom cards! I want my students to experience fun and engaging lessons, and build classroom community, as if we were in the classroom in person.
