Learning From a Distance

My Students

My students are deaf and hard of hearing and are really struggling with distance learning. Most of them read at a 1st-3rd grade reading level and struggle with comprehension.

Many come from homes where only Spanish is spoken and the families do not know sign language and can’t help them with their school work.

We were not able to work with our students face to face and had to send videos to explain their work, which was not very successful.

My Project

I have asked for Teacher Pay Teacher gift cards so I can get digital activities for all the core subject areas. These activities will allow the students to interact with the content material when we can’t be face to face.

Some of the activities involve a fun way to interact with basic vocabulary words, which many of my students struggle with since they communicate in sign language and can’t hear the spoken word.

They can work digitally in Google Classroom and actually manipulate the material instead of using paper and pencil. They will also get immediate feedback to see what they need to work on. The material covers all content areas, so the students will get a lot of practice digitally and the lessons are very colorful and eye-appealing, but teach the content in a way the students can understand.
