My Students

As a fifth grade teacher, my job is to prepare my students for middle school and beyond. Academically and socially, they are ready. However, due to limited funding at my school site, they lack the technological skills they need to survive in the 21st century.

My students love school, especially if technology is involved!

They attend a Title I in Oakland, CA. Many students are English learners. With this in mind, although they love technology, we do not have a lot of it in our classroom, nor do we have a computer lab on site. Therefore, having six tablets in our classroom will add to our technology resources and allow students to do research or work on small group projects. Students will add tools to their technological tool belt as they manipulate and explore components of the tablets. The tablets will allow my students to be better prepared for the world of today and the future that is expecting them tomorrow.

My Project

My students love using technology to learn, which unfortunately doesn't happen often. The tablets will allow me to integrate technology into my current lessons and allow students to further explore the resources in small groups. Student learning and engagement will increase as they are able to hold technology in their hands while they conduct and construct their own learning. The tablets will motivate and give my students the tools to conduct independent research, to practice and reinforce skills, to record data, to carry out projects, to use educational apps, and to publish their work in new and creative ways. These resources will open the doors to critical thinking, creativity, more independent learning, and more student learning activities.

All of my students love using technology in the classroom.

However, my challenge is providing them with the technology that they need. There are a lot of fun, educational, and engaging technology integration ideas, but we have to have the technology tools to use them. With this in mind, the donations and support for this project will make a significant impact on the lives of my students because they will be able to hold technology in their own hands.
