Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My second graders are so eager to always write different stories during writing but most importantly to write their own informational books to teach others about topics they are experts on.
These books will be used as mentor texts for our informational writing unit in second grade.
The students will learn about different ways authors can teach readers information.
They will use these book as they craft their writing. We will read these texts as a class with the purpose of studying the author's craft, or the way the author uses words and structures in their writing. The students will then try some of those authors' craft moves in their own writing. Students will be asked to try to create a procedural informational book or an ask and answer book or even an informational book that teaches information through a story.
