My Students

Our classroom is a place where students strive for excellence and embrace the many learning opportunities that come their way. Located in Kailua, on the island of Oahu, our school serves approximately 320 students from pre-school to grade 6. Many of our students come from Kailua or attend on a geographic exception from the nearby city of Waimanalo. We have the best students around! I have the privilege of teaching 18 of them this school year. I hope to serve not just as their teacher, but hope to inspire them and coach them in pursuit of their goals. The students in my ELA courses love to read and write! They love to conduct research on topics of interest and create products that demonstrate their learning.

My students are excited when they get to choose topics of research, creatively write based on a variety of prompts, and produce writing pieces that meet proficiency.

We are indeed a learning community! Our faculty is not just committed to academic excellence, but is also committed to providing experiences for students to explore their interests, work on interpersonal and collaboration skills, remain engaged and challenged, and pursue their goals!

My Project

Our classroom this year supports students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Each group of students has their own unique needs that range from single subject support to second language learners to cognitive disabilities to students learning with the challenges of multiple disabilities. Each student needs something different to succeed and that is why our request for materials seems to cover so many areas.

With our varied students and varied needs, our requested items are also varied from language arts to math to science to life skills.

Some students need help with phonics using the Touch and Read Blends, Digraphs, and Vowels Match sets and the Early Language Activity Box. Others need support in higher level math skills such as algebraic thinking using the calculators, the Visual Math Write Wipe Boards, and the Math Fact Folder Games.

Upper elementary students in grades 3-6 need assistance in organizing their writing, increasing their vocabulary, and improving their comprehension using the Writing Process Student Folders, the 5-minute Vocabulary Practice Cards, and the Reading Comprehension Daily Practice Journals.

Students also need modified work to assist them in demonstrating grade level skills in science or social studies using the Meet the Standards Hands-on Science Kits and the Instant STEM activities. The Social-Emotional Photo Libraray and the Moods Emotion Wooden Match-Up will be used to help students meet their areas of need in social emotional growth.

We hope that you will decide to help our classroom and all of our different types of learners as we strive to grow in our academics and our social and emotional growth.
