My students live on a rural, isolated island where all students receive free/reduced lunch. Parents are hard-working and many work multiple jobs, so time left to help kids with schoolwork is short in supply. The kids are very sweet and endearing, not just to me, but visitors always have the same to say. They work hard and excel with the right motivation and resources.
My Project
As we make decisions every day, our decision-making skills are used and improved, a person’s quality of life is enhanced and wiser choices result in better use of time, money, and other resources. This introductory lesson provides students with an opportunity to learn more about decision-making. People are usually not aware of economic influences that can affect decision-making but even though these economic factors include inflation, interest rates, and the unemployment rate the common risks associated with decision-making are often not considered. Students should also be aware of opportunity cost—what a person gives up when a decision is made and finally, the lesson concludes with strategies for analyzing the results of decision-making.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
