My Students

Our students are a wonderful bunch of Pre-K children. They are curious and have a thirst for learning. I like to provide them with unique and memorable experiences that they may not get outside of our classroom.

We are a Title I school located in a low-income neighborhood.

We are a diverse classroom, in a diverse neighborhood, in New York. My students travel from all over the city to be in our school and really love to be part of our community.

My Project

I would like to teach my pre-kindergarten students more about financial literacy by understanding wants vs. needs by re-creating a laundromat in our dramatic play center.

I want my students to recognize that we all have wants and needs.

For my students who attend a Title I school, needs are what come up mostly throughout their lives. Using dramatic play, I want to show my students that not all students have their needs met and certainly not their wants because some families do not have money for it.

I am requesting materials for creating a laundromat, as well as other materials to be used in our classroom play. Students will use their imagination to learn how money is used in exchange for goods and services.
