Our students come from many different backgrounds, culturally, linguistically, socially, and economically. Over 40% of our students are from low-income households and/or speak a language other than English at home.
Our diverse population helps to create a unique community of understanding and caring students who support tolerance and the appreciation of others who are different from you.
These kids praise each other's differences and understand that it is through compassion that they can make a difference in this world.
The community here at our school is one of inclusivity. The diverse population helps the kids to see that we are all different, and that is what makes us special. These are some of the sweetest kids I have ever met, and they teach me to be a better person every day.
We are requesting a Canon speed flash and batteries for completing photography projects and extra batteries for our cameras. Students will use the flash to create yearbook ads to promote fundraising events for our program and to create paid promotional ads for local businesses and families to include in our yearbook. Our Yearbook class wants to take some field trips this year and would like to upgrade some of our camera equipment.
Students will develop financial literacy skills by making a budget for our proposed expenses, coming up with a plan to raise the necessary money, and then tracking our progress.
We will be tracking our income and expenses using a shared google spreadsheet so students can view progress.
In past years we sold yearbook ads to raise money. This year we are looking to fundraise before the yearbook is sold so we can attend trainings and improve our equipment. We will also be organizing fundraising events like a Skate Night, Dine Out Night, and food sales at school events. Students will learn financial literacy skills when planning these events to figure out what to charge, estimated profit, and actual profits.
