This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school, in which more than 40% of the students are of low-income households. The majority of our students are English Language Learners, and range in language proficiency levels from Entering (Beginning) to Commanding (Proficient).
Our students are learning a strong foundation in English, in order to achieve success on the state exam, which tests their English proficiency.
Since they have to be able to speak, listen, read, and write in English, they need all the resources they can get in order to be successful!
My Project
Other than receiving instruction from me, my students need time to access language through educational sites. Having laptops will allow them to work on learning English at their own pace and allow them to learn it in different ways. Many of my English Language Learners only have access to technology at school, so giving them the opportunity to use it independently will help improve their language skills and increase their vocabulary. My students can practice the skills they've learned and gain confidence in speaking, reading, listening, and writing in English. These are all skills they will need to become proficient!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
