Learning Embedded Systems With Micro:bit

Help me give my students a tangible way to see their code in action with the micro:bit ARM-based embedded system. The micro:bit gives students the ability to develop code for various sensors, buttons, LEDs, bluetooth, and radio messaging.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Block coding is a great way to introduce kids to programming. With the micro:bit ARM-based embedded system and Microsoft MakeCode the children will be able to learn how to develop code for various sensors, buttons, radio, LEDs, sound, and more. Most of the children have experience using Scratch or Scratch Jr., and this will expand upon their knowledge giving them hands-on experience with embedded systems. The micro:bit can be expanded for use in robotics, weather stations, and much more. We currently have the Future Education Climate Action Kit, that expands on the micro:bit's functionality, which we plan to use in an after school program. Having these micro:bit systems will allow us to introduce more children to the world of ARM-based embedded systems and give them a head start in the world of programming and system design.
