I need to attend a One Day Music Director Workshop hosted by the Broadway Teaching Group where I will get to learn directly from Broadway Musical Directors.

My Students
My students are young adults age 11 through 14 who love to participate in all aspects of music! My students are musicians who commit extra time to rehearsals for our Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, and even our Spring Musical Pit Band. Students love participating in the Pit Band experience because it allows them to collaborate with other talented students from our arts programs. We have talented actors in our building and also visual artists who help design some of the set and scenery in our musicals. It's such a wonderful way for all students to get involved.
My Project
I will have the opportunity to meet with three professional Musical Directors from Broadway; Matt Perri from Cinderella, Kimberly Grigsby from Spider Man & Grease, and Sam Davis who is currently working to create Frozen on Broadway. Each of these professionals will discuss such things as Conducting a Score, Musical Direction that supports an Actor through Song, and Music Arranging and Composing. These categories will provide me with information that I can take back to my school and use it directly with my students during our preparations for our Spring Musical. Our Pit Band performs while students are singing and there are often times I must rearrange the music to meet the needs of our ensemble and cast. All three of these sessions will provide me with new ideas and creative ways to tackle some challenges that will come my way while preparing for our show.
