Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a Comprehensive Special Education Program.

My student population consists of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities.

Working with this population can be difficult, but it is super rewarding within this environment. I teach the most interesting, well-behaved, scholars ever! My school is a student-centered environment filled with "World-Class Teachers"! This will be my fifth year but on day one, I knew this school was home. As a team, we are continuously brainstorming ways to evolve as educators, and we are also advocates for family involvement in the learning process!

My Project

Students will use the materials in this project to create our Counting Coins Coffee Shop. Students have been learning about service workers, consumers and producers and the components of trade (supply and demand, production costs, etc.). We have also been working hard with learning strategies for counting money. Teachers on the 2nd and 3rd Grade team will be given realistic money to purchase coffee from my classroom.

Students will be responsible for taking orders, counting money, using the register and counting change to teachers on a created receipt.

Students will independently fill orders by using these materials and delivering them to the staff members. Students will learn skills such as; following directions, sequencing, counting money, communicating appropriately, navigating around a building with a buddy, being cautious, completing a task, and working together to provide goods and services. Delivering the coffee will give our students the chance to be part of the school and get to know all the staff around the building. It will give them a project that will help them feel successful and showcase all they have learned this school year!
