This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, I am a special education teacher who is currently teaching in a low income neighborhood. At my school, 96 percent of the students receive free lunch.
The learning environment plays an important role in a child’s education. There are several factors in which makes an environment conducive to learning. Some of these factors are as follows:
>An environment that is warm and inviting.
>An environment that is infinitely flexible to accommodate a wide range of activities.
>An environment that has windows and natural is extremely important.
>An environment that has color and decorations to brighten up the room.
>An environment with all learning materials.
I believe that an effective learning environment should appeal to all five senses; it should be physically comfortable. The environment that my students are learning in has all of the above except for physical comfort.
During the late part of spring and the summer, the temperature in the classroom is very unbearable. It is very difficult for a child to learn if the temperature in the classroom is not comfortable. My classroom is located on the second floor of my school building. The temperature in the room exceeds 80 degrees during the warm weather. During this time, children become restless. They have a difficult time staying focused on the lessons being taught.
I believe that having a portable air conditioner will reduce the temperature in the room during warm days. It will provide the students with the learning environment they deserve. Children are sensitive to uncomfortable temperatures. I believe that special education children are even more sensitive to high temperatures within their learning environment. Please help in providing my classroom with a comfortable environment that is conducive to learning.
Very much appreciated,
Caring Teacher
