My students need a more collaborative learning environment. The students will be able to engage themselves comfortably in the classroom through the use of stools, a couch, and other seating options.
"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." - Anthony J. D'Angelo
My students are an amazing group of learners.
They are constantly asking great questions and pushing themselves to work to the best of their abilities. I have seen them rise to all of the challenges that I put in front of them and they constantly challenge me to be a more progressive and thoughtful teacher.
My students are thinkers, dreamers, and creators. They come from all backgrounds and bring with them various life stories and experiences. Their uniqueness is what has helped us to create a trusting and loving classroom community.
My Project
I have been slowly adding flexible seating options into my classroom this year. My students love being able to make their own responsible choices when it comes to sitting where they learn best. Right now, I have very limited options and I would like to offer my students more choices in the classroom. I envision the students collaborating in the center of our room around a table or sitting on a couch. The futon will provide another comfortable seating option for my students. They can also sit on the rug in small group collaboration or when working independently. The futon and rug will be in the center of my classroom and serve as the "hub" for instruction. Having more options in the classroom like the futon, rug, stools, etc., will make the classroom feel more inviting. I want my students to feel comfortable and focused when in the classroom learning environment. I can see my students enjoying learning around the room without feeling constrained to their desks. My students get excited about learning and they show their excitement through movement.
They need...CHOICES!
CHOICES! CHOICES! I want my students to feel comfortable in the classroom. Sitting in a desk all day is hard! This is why I would like to give them stools to sit on while they are at my standing desks, or moon chairs to sit in so that they can be comfortable working on the floor. The students will need the book bins to store all of their supplies since they will not have a traditional desk. And what student wouldn't love sitting on a couch or on a nice carpet in their classroom while reading about explorers!
