Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a first grade teacher in Chicago, IL. Currently we are using learning centers in my classroom to help meet the individual learning needs of each student in the class. As small groups of students work at learning centers, I am allowed time to work with a small group on reading skills. These centers help students improve their academic, social and independent work skills. Most of the centers being used by the students I have created by hand. However, I think my students would benefit from more center options and activities. Many of the items I am requesting can not be made by hand, such as books, tapes, and computer software. Literacy is currently the main focus of my centers, but I would like to begin incorporating more math, social studies and science into center time. This donation of supplies would allow me to make this extension into the other subject areas. I am asking for the donation of supplies to help expand our learning centers. Resources being requested include pocket charts, books and audiotapes for the listening center, science center supplies, and additional literacy center resources. Please consider making this donation to our classroom and helping us maximize this very important and productive learning time.
