My students need headphones to use in a listening center to listen to online stories and multiple online programs. A color copier is needed to create language arts and math center games to practice skills
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Dycus's classroom raised $418
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach at a small Title 1 elementary school, which serves predominantly Native Hawaiian children. Around 80 percent of the children are free and reduced lunch. The third grade students here are like most other 3rd graders. They are still eager to learn, excited about school, and luckily love their teacher.
What makes this school, this group of students different?
EXPOSURE to different EXPERIENCES...
Research shows that the brain learns best when it has prior experiences to link new learning. My goal for this group of students is to create those experiences that they are unlikely to get in their daily lives. Creating experiences solidifies learning and creates excitement in learning!
My Project
In our classroom, students are learning to be self-directed, collaborative students in learning centers. We use learning centers in all academic areas, but predominately in language arts and math centers.
Our classroom would benefit from a color printer to create vocabulary cards, picture word walls, and other anchor charts to act as the "2nd teacher" in the room.
Students use the vocabulary cards to create their own vocabulary cards rings to practice and build their vocabulary. This is extremely important for my students since it serves an underprivileged population of children, who lack a vast base in vocabulary. Essential questions for our focus of the week depict colored pictures to extend the students' understanding of of the week's theme. Science and a Math alphabet would be printed to build the academic vocabulary of the students.
Our classroom is also in desperate need of a set of durable headphones. These headphones will be used in conjunction with the classroom iPads for students to listen to the weekly stories to work on reading fluency and comprehension. In addition, the students can listen to other applications that assist in teaching math skills and science topics.
Finally, two wobble chairs would be used to help get the students wiggles out to increase their ability to focus.
More than half of students from low‑income households
