Learning Center Needs Technology: Help Kids Learn and Research
My students need an iPad and an external hard drive to help them create a learning center and to store their projects and experiments in health class.

My Students
Nelson Mandela once said, "It is impossible until it is done." Whenever someone has a vision for either themselves or their classroom, the first step often feels like an impossibility. My vision is to introduce my students to the 21st Century by creating a learning center with their first iPad.
Our students are creative, high spirited, and engaging individuals with a desire to learn, especially if it involves technology.
Our school has a 75% young male population. Presently several of my students have never had the opportunity to use an iPad and to discover the world in the palm of their hands.
Our school is a new science, engineering, and technology academy in New York. We educate a predominantly African-American and Caribbean-American population of students. Several of our students don't have the necessary technology to keep up with the world around them.
The creation of a learning center with an iPad that students can use is a great motivator for students to complete their work and to learn about technology as it develops. In addition to the iPad, students will have the ability to save all their projects and research on an external hard drive. This is a cost effective resource because it will reduce the need for us to get another computer.
My Project
The creation of our learning center with an iPad will support our Nutrition and Physical Activity as well as Tobacco, Alcohol and Other Drugs unit, because this will allow students to track nutritional information from various websites, store student created public service announcement/commercials, and data from their experiments.
The iPad will also provide access to various apps such as "Choose myPlate.gov" where students can track their nutritional and physical activity. Utilizing the external hard drive, students can work in groups to save their research and store their data.
This project will introduce my students to the benefits of technology and how technology simplifies and improves the work that needs to be done.
Students will be able to explore various topics individually and learn how to track and maintain their physical wellness and gain a deeper understanding of how technology connects to the real world. We will utilize class data to incorporate math, science, health, and technology.
