My Students
My students are some of the most eager to learn individuals I have ever had the pleasure of teaching. They are incredibly passionate, creative, and intelligent.
My students are enrolled in a special education cross categorical classroom, which means that the students possess a myriad of exceptionalities - ranging from autism to specific learning disabilities to emotional/behavioral.
My students range in age and ability level. I have eight students, whose grades range from Kindergarten through 4th.
Despite their individual challenges, my students do not lack the ability to be pushed to unimaginable heights! As their teacher, this serves as a challenging task, at times. Due to their range in abilities and grade levels, I am not able to teach in a "whole group" setting. This is where our project comes in...
My Project
The items in this project will increase the amount of centers and that we can use in the classroom. Due to the extreme range of ability in my classroom (i.e. some of my students are learning simple addition, while others are learning fractions and multiplication), I am unable to teach in a typical "whole group" setting. Our typical school day schedule works in rotations. For example, while I have a group with me, the second group is working on centers with the classroom aide, while the third group is working independently (i.e. independent reading or math facts). I have asked for dry erase boards and dry erase pouches so that my students are able to do their work in centers. In addition, I have asked for command strips and a wall organizer so that my students will be able to simply access all of their materials.
