Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My name is Ms. Lopez and I teach a 2nd grade class. I am a first year teacher with 21 truly diverse and intelligent students. My students come from low-income homes but they are full of enthusiasm for learning and growing! This school is a Title I school located in Florida, where 93.5% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My school is also a dual-language school that has a high range of English Learners. Imagine a classroom having all of the tools necessary to be able to learn the language and grasp what is being taught in the classroom and knowing that your help is what accomplished this! Despite many hardships that the students encounter, whether it is a language barrier or an academic hiccup, they are eager to learn new material and try their best in all of the work that they do!
The goal for my school and second grade team is to prepare the students for success throughout their academic transitions.
This classroom needs some tools to help accomplish this goal and vision. Thank you for all of your support and help!
My Project
This class comes in every single day ready and excited to learn. Students are ecstatic to complete hands-on activities, task, and are always ready for more. When students complete their expected work, students get a chance to read a book and then play an academic game. Having these games available would allow for students to use what they already know and put it into practice through the use of fun games. Also, for those students who need the extra practice, these games will assist the students in remediating and practicing a skill or topic that is not yet understood.
Board games serve as a wonderful to enrich and remediate many different subjects and topics!
"I Have, Who Has" and "Quizmo Integers Addition & Subtraction" are great board game that will help my students in various math topics. Also, many students are struggling in addition and playing "Magnetic Addition" machine will assist them immensely! Besides academics, many students also lack social skills and these games will help them while interacting with their classmates!
