My Students

I have 20 wonderful students in my kindergarten class. These 5 and 6 year olds are itching to learn how to write and tell their own stories. Their smiles brighten every time I tell them we are about to become authors.

Currently I teach in an early childhood public school (PreK-1).

We are located in a suburban area that often houses students in transition.

My students are not quite ready to write "big kid" stories. However, they are experts on drawing pictures and writing simple sentences/labels. Our classroom has some writing materials. However, we lack age-appropriate materials that correlate to our kindergarten writing standards.

My Project

My young learners will use these materials during learning stations throughout the year. I will also be able to use many of the games for re-teaching skills such as phoneme and sight word mastery. The hands on games allow my young students to also develop their fine motor skills. Many of my students enter kindergarten without any pre-writing development. The fine motor aspect of my materials addresses this need. I have also selected a few boards that will allow me to send home for student practice. With strong in class skill development and at home guided activities my learners can learn while having fun.
