My Students

My students attend an inner city alternative school. Most come from low-income families. Many of their academic levels are below grade-level, but they have the desire to learn.

Some people would consider our population to be "throw-aways" but I know they are capable of learning!

Many of them want to learn. They have hopes and dreams for the future just like other students their age. I want to help them take steps toward realizing those hopes and dreams. I want to provide them with the education they need!

My Project

Almost all of my students' reading and writing abilities are below grade level, which makes learning grueling for them. Centers make learning fun while targeting the skills they need to acquire.

Hands-on activities, such as learning centers and games, keep students engaged in learning.

During the Literacy block, my students rotate through a series of learning activities, including focused learning time with me. Having a variety of center activities will keep them focused on learning while keeping it fun! Playing a game that focuses on the main idea is much more engaging than a worksheet ever could be! Additionally, touching and working with manipulatives helps them learn more quickly and remember what they've learned more easily.

My students will learn and enjoy learning with materials such as High-Interest Intervention Reading Folders, Learn-to-Write with Mentor Texts, and Power Pen Reading Comprehension Quiz Cards.
