Learning can be fun!!!

My students need some modern, challenging educational games to reinforce their learning in all subjects. Some of the titles I've requested include Name That State, EQUATE, and Pay Day.

Please help me turn our game-time into a lesson of it's own!!! I am a third grade teacher in the Minneapolis public schools and my students are amazing! They brighten every day for me, and I can see so much potential sitting in those tiny little desks!

I truly believe that learning should be fun. Third graders have a lot of work to do each and every day. As we raise our testing standards higher and higher each year, we put more and more focus on lesson after lesson to drive the learning process. Even our lunch and recess times have been cut to the bone to make more room for math and language arts. This is a necessary step in the world we live in, but we teachers have to remind ourselves to infuse our classrooms with a spirit of fun. The students will accomplish so much more when they truly want to be here. We can't forget that, in this world of standardized tests. One of the methods that I use to keep the "fun fire" lit in my students is to give them the opportunity to earn game-time. Good behavior and quality work is rewarded with a little time to breathe and have fun. The problem is that the games in my classroom are either ancient and falling apart, or too simple for the majority of my students. Flipping flash cards that ask them to add 4 and 2 isn't exactly a whopping good time for the kids in my class.

There are some amazing, award-winning educational games out there. My goal is to get them into the hands of my students. A great educational game will do so much. It can engross the child with creative game play and fun competition. It can drive them to include others into the game, spreading the benefits to more and more children. Most importantly to me, a great game reinforces and even expands on the lessons that I teach every day. The best ones create fun learning opportunities for children of all levels, and the social learning aspect is an added bonus. These games on my wish list are all great games and would be cherished and enjoyed by my third graders this year and for years to come. They will help enrich so many of our lessons such as general math, money transactions, elapsed time, spelling, geography, graphing, and geometry.

Before I finish I want to thank you at the very least for your interest and for simply reading this proposal. If you do decide to donate to our classroom, know that the resources will be fully used and enjoyed by my students. You would be helping me turn our game-time into a great learning opportunity. I definitely know that these kids deserve it!
