My Students

Pre- Kindergarten is a new and exciting experience for students and their families. It is their first experience with school. They are like sponges ready to soak up every bit of information we can give them. I am part of a team of six Pre-Kindergarten teachers, two are special needs, one is Head Start, and one is off-site at a local childcare center.

My students come from generational, low-income families that frequently move from school to school within the school year.

The students at my school speak up to ten different languages. A few of the home languages for my school are Spanish, Vietnamese, and Burmese. In fact, we are the school for resettled Burmese refugees. Most students have little academic support at home. At our school, we strive to give our students every opportunity for success.

My Project

Hands-on activities and learning with technology all in one place? Yes, please! The vast majority of young children learn best using hands-on materials. By best, I mean children remember, internalize, and learn to apply the knowledge acquired through manipulating hands-on materials with their hands.

Students need to learn to use technology to be successful in the modern world.

Osmo allows children to use real-life objects and interact with technology at the same time. For example, using the sticks and rings, children can form letters. The Osmo device can "see" what the kids created and guide them and celebrate their successes. Another activity the children can complete using the Osmo is to create anything they can imagine with the sticks and rings. When the Osmo "sees" the creation, it comes to life on the screen.
