This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There is so much that can be said about my students. They face so much adversity and rise to challenges in the classroom. There is a high rate of students living at a poverty level, yet that doesn't keep them from sharing thier rich backgrounds.
There is always a sense of community at this school.
As a Community of Caring school, students from different grade levels work together to teach the values of Respect, Responsibility, Trust, and Caring. The older students work as mentors to the younger students, which they will use in the future when they become mentors.
My Project
There has been an effort to instill a love for reading in my students. One way to do that is vary the ways they read. We have read a book to self, partner reading, and read alouds. By adding a technological component, I can have students listen to reading.
Using this technology will help struggling students, also.
I have students who read below grade level, and it is not fun to read a below grade level book or even struggle trying to read at grade level. By seamlessly integrating a listening rotation, struggling readers will build reading skills without the embarrassment.
These items will be used during independent reading time. There are variety of ways that students will read, one being listening to reading. Students will find a comfortable place, including the comfy chairs, and listen to grade level novels with the CD and player. Students will track their progress on sheets that I provide.
