My students need the following materials, to adequately engage in laboratory dissections in Biology I: 3 posters on classifying living things, visualizing meiosis, and visualizing protists; 2 frog dissection molding kits, and 1 eight specimen school pack, containing 50 each of eight different specimens.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Jordan's classroom raised $713
This project is fully funded
I teach Biology I for students in grades 9-12 in Mississippi. The majority of my students were not exposed to basic laboratory dissections in middle school; therefore, I try to ensure that each student receives at least one dissection experience before completing their high school careers. I teach at a high school that is located in a high-needs area and admits students from poor socioeconomic communities.
I was blessed to have a similar project funded through DonorsChoose last year, that allowed each student in my 6 Biology I classes to experience dissecting two different specimens. They were a little reluctant to partake in the experience at first, but expressed such enthusiasm and interest in completing their dissections. In fact, my new Biology I students for this year caught wind of last year's dissections, and are looking forward to partaking in the experience themselves. Currently, the Science Dept. at my school does not provide enough funding for basic classroom supplies, much less laboratory-related supplies.
In order to make this year as memorable and productive as last year's, I need a dissecting specimens kit, along with a couple of demonstration models and posters to properly introduce my students to the dissection process. My students will greatly benefit from this experience, because it will provide them with the opportunity to get exposure to dissections before entering college, where the material will be more intense and detailed. Additionally, this project will provide them with a sense of accomplishment, as they discover how other organisms' internal organs are similar to their own.
With your help, you will ensure that my students are provided with enough materials to enjoy a fun, rigorous classroom environment through exploration and experimentation. Additionally, my students will acquire an adequate amount of education and knowledge that will prepare them to be successful in a global society. Thank you for your time and support. My students cannot be successful without you.
