Learning Beyond the Surface

My Students

We have military families, special education students, gifted and talented students, English Language Learners, students from a variety of cultures and religions, and an increasing number of students who are in need of extra assistance with basic needs. Students are in need of extra assistance with basic needs, including food due to an increasing number of students experiencing homelessness. The homeless effect impacts the student in more ways than many would realize. My students, regardless of anything taking place outside of the walls of the school, deserve every opportunity possible to succeed. They thrive on community interaction, positive reinforcement, choices, and they thrive when they aren't worried about their stomachs growling. They must have access to state of the art knowledge to prepare them for the careers of tomorrow, something not every student currently has.

One of the great things about having so many diverse students is the unique perspectives they all bring to our community.

Our school community is comprised of students who can speak over 30 different languages, students who have lived outside of the US, students who have challenges we cannot imagine, and students who refuse to give up.

My Project

My students use technology in the classroom everyday. They use it to create presentations, do research, communicate with me and complete assignments. The students of today are the workforce of tomorrow and need to have access to the technology they will be expected to be comfortable with.

My student need to take their creativity to the digital world.

Having a Surface will help me give them the opportunity to take their creativity to that next digital step. They will be able to create their projects in digital formats that they have never been able to before. Giving those artistic students an outlet to place their ideas in digital format will engage them in concepts of computer science and graphic arts that their fields will evolve around.
