My Students

Our school is comprised of students from many different countries, cultures, and unique situations. We are what many consider to be a high-needs community of learners. Many of our students face daily struggles that most adults have never had to deal with and yet they love to learn, have found a second home and safe-haven in our school, and deserve every opportunity that can be given to them.

Our students are leaders who have courage and grit and we want to give them a new and unique learning space.

Mighty and courageous are the words that accurately describe these young people. They inspire each other, the staff, and the community around them every single day.

My Project

My students crave opportunities to learn. They need these picnic tables to extend the learning environment beyond the traditional four walls of the classroom. These tables will provide new learning experiences across all subject areas. Students will be able to connect their reading, writing, math, and science on new levels that haven't been available. My students will be able to take their books outside and enjoy the sun. They will be able to write outside and engage their senses to make their writing even stronger. They will be able to conduct science experiments that are often too messy to be done indoors.

Students need time and space to connect with nature.

The technology of our day has discouraged kids from playing outside and exploring the world around them in a hands-on way. Picnic tables will certainly bridge the gap between the inside and the outside.

Our school has worked incredibly hard to make our families and the community feel welcome at school over the past few years. Picnic tables will also encourage families and the community to spend time with students and help them connect to the school. They will be able to enjoy lunch with the kids and the staff in a new and comfortable way.
