This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a classroom full of energetic second graders with endless smiles. I serve on the south side of Chicago. More than half of the students in our school comes from low income households. My students enjoy reading as well as hands-on learning. They are so excited when new books are added to our library. They enjoy using manipulatives and different strategies to solve higher order thinking mathematical problems. They come to school each day ready to learn. My students love collaborating with their peers to solve problems or to engage in a rich meaningful discussion.
They also love to engage in tasks that require them to be critical thinkers.
My students continue to grow and blossom!
My Project
These materials will allow my students to be successful as they begin second grade online. Last year, many of my students lacked materials for remote learning. For example, some students did not have journals or notebooks, so they were using whatever paper they could find at home.
Not having the adequate materials can become frustrating especially during this strenuous time.
This year, I want them to be well prepared for learning, so everyone will receive 2 journals for math and literacy. This will allow students to keep their notes and assignments organized. Students will also receive bins to store their assignments and other supplies. The whiteboards will be used for students to stay engaged during whole group and small group lessons. The math manipulatives will be used for students to visually learn how to tell time and add and subtract two digit numbers.
Considering how each student learns differently, I want to provide the materials that appeal to the visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners.
