Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students I work with will have their first experience in school when they enter my classroom. I have 20 young friends, between the ages of three and five who are excited and eager to learn. All of the children are from a low-income area, and each day in the classroom is a new experience for them. For many, it may be the first time they will be exposed to basic academic learning skills such as colors, shapes, letters, and numbers.

My Project

My students are in need of a new carpet for circle time. The carpet is where the class gathers during the school day and where learning happens. The carpet that was selected creates a personal space for each student in the class. They are also in need of soft mats to explore books, games, and to create their own personal quiet space during the day. The mats that were selected fit this description perfectly. Children can use their own personalized mat to keep that very important personal space!

Having these soft, clean, and inviting spaces within the classroom will optimize learning and create a comfortable environment for all the children in my classroom.
