We are a TAM first grade classroom, which means Team Approach to Mastery. I am the special education teacher, and teach with a general education teacher along with a 1:1 paraprofessional to support our 23 wonderful students. Throughout the school day, there are three students from the ILC classroom that join our class to learn with us during science, social studies and math number corner. During this time, we have 26 students in our classroom, with 6 adults as we have more 1:1 paraprofessionals to support our additional students.
We work incredibly hard to reach the needs of all of our students, close the achievement gap and still challenge our students that are working above grade level.
In our classroom, we have multiple students with behavior plans as well as students with learning disabilities that are working well below grade level. We want learning to be fun and engaging, and the way we can add excitement to our classroom is through flexible seating options like wobble stools, soft seats and creating opportunities for students to learn through hands-on learning.

My Project
Yoga mats and inflatable feet options will give my students variety with flexible seating in our classroom. We use flexible seating daily as students have options to work on bouncy balls, wobble stools and soft seats!
Colorful bracelets will be used daily to help my students identify their emotions and feelings, and allow me to monitor my student's social emotional needs throughout the school day.
The bracelet colors will correlate with an emotion and students will be able to have opportunities throughout the day to change their bracelet color as their emotions change. This will be a helpful tool to helping students become more aware and comfortable with their emotions, as well as work to regulate their emotions.
Additional headphones with speakers will allow students to create videos to show their learning with high quality audio. We already have three headphones like this and they have been a game changer in the classroom for Seesaw videos. Two more will make our classroom collection complete and allow for a recording station where students will sign up to record their videos in style!
