This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Daily 5 is an integral part of our day. During the Daily 5, my kindergarten students are expected to read to self each day. That is one portion of the Daily 5. Most of my students do not know how to read. So staying on task is quite a challenge.

My school is a Renaissance school which means that over 90% of the students are on free lunch.

Technology is often not available to them at home, which is why providing it for them at school is so important. Because technology is used so much in the real world now, I want to provide my students with the opportunity to learn how to use it and to help them learn.

My Project

During the Daily 5, my kindergarten students are required to read to self for 20-30 minutes at a time before rotating to the next portion of Daily 5. They need to stay on task and engaged while students are doing other activities and I am conducting guided reading groups. My attention needs to be given to the group of students I am working with in my guided reading group-without interruptions...which is a daily challenge!

By having a Tablet to use the MyOn website, the students will be able to have books read to them and follow along with the words.

This will keep them engaged and not interrupting the teacher during Guided Reading groups. The students will learn how to use technology in the classroom to help them learn which in turn, will help them in the future.
