Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My third graders attend a public school in an urban district. It is a Title I school, and 100% of the students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch. Coming from an urban district and a Title I school, unfortunately, my students do not have as many supplies and opportunities as students in the surrounding districts.

This year, I have 25 inquisitive and eager students, many of whom are not on grade level.

They include English Language Learners and LTSS students, but they are always ready to learn. My students are full of energy, and their creativity shines through in all of the work that they do. They soak up everything you put out.

My goal is to make their school experience meaningful and fun while also setting high expectations and providing a safe, loving environment for all of my students, no matter their circumstances. Your donations mean more than you will ever fully understand!

My Project

Within my classroom, I have a wide variety of learners. I have ESL students, LTSS students, and regular ed. students. Many students don't have access to books but can recite song lyrics or solve the next phase on Fort Nite. It's all about technology. Especially now with Distance Learning due to Covid-19. Having access to books and rich, informational texts outside of school is critical for students to become successful readers and by offering them the digital format, they will be able to access books on their tablets, computers, or phones when they want to read.

The leveled readers offered on the Reading A to Z site are an excellent way for students to know which books are within their reading range so they can choose books that are on their personal reading level or choose an easier book if they want to read alone.

Raz-Kids, the ELL component and Science program will allow the students to have their own individual library of books that they can read, listen to and then complete comprehension questions. The books range from fairytales, to folktales to informational and fiction options. Each child will be guaranteed a book of their liking and be able to adjust to their pace.

This helps the students work toward their personal reading goals with whatever format our school learns with in the upcoming school year. Having online readers will appeal to more students, giving them an even bigger selection to choose from; thus, creating the desire to log on and read outside of the classroom helping to achieve their reading goals!
